Living On The Edge

Living On The Edge

During the winter, I visited Vancouver’s renowned Downtown East Side (DTES) for several months. I would approach a homeless individual between 1 am and 4 am and ask if I could photograph them. I’d then return a few days later and offer them a print of the photo I’d taken. This allowed me to enter the community and get hundreds of photographs in one of North America’s poorest neighborhoods. Every time I gave a photo their eyes would light up and they would always ask permission to keep the image I had just given them.
